Day 35: Missing the Buzz

Deb and I are starting to place wagers with each other. How long can we go without going to the store? Will it be 3 days (Mike) or at least another week (Deb) until the grass will be tall enough for the first mow of the season?

We're inventing things to look forward to. Because it's now to the point where every day blurs into the next. Each day is Groundhog Day.

Maybe more than other days, I've see this on Saturdays. Saturday is our "sabbath," the day we try to unplug, disengage from other people and things, and rest.

Saturday for me usually adds another dynamic: Saturday is the "day before." I have experienced the buzz (usually by Saturday evening) that Sunday is next.

By Saturday night I have my game face on. I usually don't sleep particularly well, and I get up super early to prepare my heart to lead our people and proclaim God's Word. I even get (kinda) stoked to load the gear into the school.

I am missing the buzz.

These days, I write a sermon for you, and record it on Thursdays. We download/upload the sermon to YouTube, Facebook and our website on Friday. (This takes more time than it should.)

But after that, no Saturday buzz. I'm not getting up super early on Sundays. Our GC Zoom call doesn't start until 10:00.

In the short term, it's a challenge to find things to look forward to. But maybe the long term can inform the short term.

The final two chapters of Revelation are so filled with hope. Here's a taste...

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.' And he who was seated on the throne said, 'Behold, I am making all things new." (Rev. 21:1-5a)

Unbelievable! Can't imagine! And ultimate something to look forward to.

Buzz recaptured!
